Riyp Lands in Mayotte – Our Apples & Pears Go Island-Hopping!
Every now and then, a milestone comes along that reminds you why you started — and today, we’re proud to share one of those moments with you.
Riyp has just completed its first-ever export to the island of Mayotte, carrying two beautiful shipments of apples and pears. Yes, Mayotte! If you’re wondering where that is, you’re not alone — and that’s exactly what makes this moment so rare and special.
So... where is Mayotte?
Tucked away in the Indian Ocean between Madagascar and Mozambique, Mayotte is a tiny French overseas territory that many people have never even heard of. With a population just under 400,000, it’s a place of incredible biodiversity, lush volcanic landscapes, and a warm tropical climate.
Here’s something interesting: Mayotte is part of the European Union — even though it’s closer to East Africa than it is to Paris. That means exporting fresh produce there is a bit like doing business in France... except with more coconut trees and coral reefs!
Why this milestone matters
We’ve always believed in finding opportunities where others don’t think to look. Getting South African apples and pears onto Mayotte’s shelves is not just a logistical win — it’s a testament to the power of curiosity, grit, and relationships.
Let’s be honest: Mayotte isn’t the first place that comes up in a strategy meeting. It’s off the radar for most, but at Riyp, we don’t mind taking the road less travelled — especially when it leads to good people and great potential.
We had to learn fast, adapt faster, and understand a unique market dynamic in order to make this happen. And now? Our fruit has officially made it to one of the most remote corners of the world — and that feels like something worth celebrating.
A toast to small wins with big meaning
This shipment may not break records in volume, but it breaks barriers in spirit. It proves that no destination is too obscure, no market too unknown, and no dream too ambitious when you’re led by purpose.
So here’s to Mayotte — and to many more surprising destinations ahead.
